Sweet strawberry sugar. White chocolate. Crunchy cereal. White chocolate strawberry puppy chow is a festive Valentine's Day treat for kids of all ages!
I celebrated my 29th birthday over the weekend, and, as someone whose childhood is starting to feel like a lifetime ago, I can confidently say that my love for puppy chow will never fade. Why is it just so good?! The crispy cereal. The melted chocolate. The sweet confectioners' sugar. It's a nostalgic treat that I'll never outgrow!
With Valentine's Day just two days away, this white chocolate strawberry puppy chow is a tasty Valentine's Day treat that's fun for the kid in all of us! It's beautiful blush pink color and delicious strawberry flavor are thanks to powdered freeze-dried strawberries. Plus, white chocolate strawberry puppy chow is a piece of cake to make (and perfect for making with your little Valentines!). Just stir the strawberry powder into the confectioner's sugar and toss with the white chocolate coated cereal. Oh, and add some festive chocolate candies for good measure!
1/4 cup freeze dried strawberry powder (see step 1 in recipe below)
1-3/4 cups confectioners' sugar
9 cups Rice Chex cereal
1-1/2 cups white chocolate melting wafers
4 T unsalted butter
1/2 cup chocolate candies (like M&M's)
Place freeze-dried strawberries in a food processor and blend until they become a fine powder. Measure 1/4 cup of the freeze-dried strawberry powder and combine with the confectioners' sugar in a small bowl. Set aside.
Place cereal in large bowl. Set aside.
Place white chocolate wafers and butter in a small bowl. Microwave on high heat for 30 seconds, then stir. Microwave on high heat for another 30 seconds. Stir the mixture until smooth. (Microwave for additional short increments, if necessary.) Pour the melted mixture over the cereal and stir to coat.
Pour cereal into a 2 gallon zip top plastic bag. Add powdered sugar mixture, seal bag, and shake to coat. Spread the coated cereal onto baking sheets lined with wax paper to dry.
Add the chocolate candies and serve.
