Sugar Cookies

These thick and cakey sugar cookies decorated with vanilla buttercream wreaths are easy to bake and decorate and the perfect Christmas sugar cookie!

In a small bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Step 1

Cream butter and sugar by first beating butter until smooth then adding sugar and beating until light and fluffy.

Step 2

Add egg, cream, and vanilla and beat until combined.

Step 3

Slowly add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and stir just until blended. 

Step 4

Scoop cookie dough into balls and place at least 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.

Step 5

Bake the cookies at  350°F for 12 minutes or until the cookies are just golden at the edges.

Step 6

Make the buttercream frosting. Beat butter before adding vanilla and sugar. Add cream and beat until  light and fluffy.

Step 7

Use a small star piping tip to pipe green frosting in a circle on top of each cookie to create a wreath.

Step 8

Use a tiny round piping tip to pipe tiny dots of red frosting onto the wreath like holly berries.

Step 9

Use the same tiny round piping tip to pipe red frosting bows at the bottom of each wreath.
