How to  Grate Carrots

for Carrot Cake

Did you know that carrots add both flavor AND moisture to baked goods? Choosing fresh carrots and grating them properly is the secret to truly delicious carrot cake (or cupcakes!). Here's what you need to know...

First things first... never bake with pre-shredded carrots! They lack flavor and moisture.

Wash and dry carrots, trim the stems, and peel using a vegetable peeler.

Prep

Grate carrots using downward strokes on the small shred side of a box grater.

Box Grater Method

This method is my fave because it's easy and creates perfectly-size carrot shreds for baking with minimal mess.

Box Grater Method

Feed carrots through the feed tube of a food processor, and grate the carrots using the small shred side of the processor's shredding attachment.

Food Processor Method

This produces a similar result to the box grater, but with more dishes to wash.
