This blackberry ginger mojito puts a fruity and invigorating spin on a classic mojito cocktail! Made with fresh blackberries and a blackberry and ginger-infused simple syrup, the flavors of blackberry and ginger enhance this light and refreshing minty cocktail.
While a classic mojito is made with 5 simple ingredients (white rum, sugar, fresh lime juice, fresh mint, and club soda), this blackberry ginger mojito recipe kicks it up a notch with fresh muddled blackberries and a blackberry and ginger-infused simple syrup for a burst of added fruity flavor.
This flavorful cocktail recipe is inspired by a cocktail I had a 14 Global, my favorite restaurant in Bethany Beach. It's packed with fresh blackberry flavor, plus a subtle hint of warm spice from the fresh ginger, yet still light and refreshing like a great mojito should be.

Ingredient Notes & Substitutions
See recipe card at the bottom of this post for full ingredient list and measurements.
Fresh Blackberries - Blackberries add their sweet and tangy flavor to this cocktail and also make a beautiful garnish.
Fresh Ginger - Ginger adds a hint of warm spice to the cocktail, complementing the sweetness of the berries and mint. Don't like ginger? Just leave it out!
Sugar - Sugar of course adds sweetness to the drink. Rather than adding granulated sugar to the cocktail, we'll use it to make a flavored simple syrup. This liquid sugar will blend into the drink, so there's no gritty sugar sitting in the bottom of the glass.
Fresh Mint - Mint is essential to a mojito, adding flavor to the drink and also acting as a beautiful garnish. Use the variety of mint that you like best. Mojito mint is mild, while peppermint and spearmint will pack a stronger mint flavor.
White Rum - White rum (or silver rum) is the alcohol of choice for a mojito.
Club Soda - Club soda adds a bit of bubbles to the drink. Feel free to substitute sparkling water or seltzer if you prefer.
Special Equipment
In addition to essential kitchen equipment (like a small saucepan), I recommend some special tools for making this recipe.
- A cocktail muddler, for muddling the blackberries. Don't have a muddler? The handle end of a thick-handled wooden spoon works great, too.
- A strainer, for straining the simple syrup and the shaken cocktail.
- A cocktail shaker, for mixing the cocktail.
Step-By-Step Recipe Instructions
See recipe card at the bottom of this post for detailed recipe instructions.
Step 1: Make the simple syrup. In a small saucepan combine sugar, water, blackberries, and grated ginger and cook until the sugar dissolves. Use a muddler to crush the blackberries.
Step 2: Strain the syrup into a glass jar and let cool to room temperature.
Step 3: Make the cocktail. Add mint leaves and blackberries to a cocktail shaker with lime juice. Muddle the berries and mint.
Step 4: Add rum, simple syrup, and ice cubes. Shake until well blended.
Step 5: Fill glass with ice cubes and strain cocktail into glass. Top off with club soda and stir gently.
Step 6: Garnish with fresh lime, mint sprig, and fresh blackberries. Enjoy!
Storage Instructions
Mojitos should be enjoyed immediately, but blackberry ginger simple syrup can be stored in a sealed glass jar in the fridge for up to a week.
