Did you finish a baking project and find yourself with leftover buttermilk? Don't let it go to waste! Instead, let's use that leftover buttermilk to bake one of these delicious recipes.
Let's save that half-full carton of leftover buttermilk from being forgotten in the back of your fridge!
Since buttermilk is most commonly sold in quart-sized containers, I often find myself with some leftover. These are some of my favorite recipes to bake when I have leftover buttermilk to use!
What Is Buttermilk
Buttermilk is fermented milk. Bacteria in the milk produces lactic acid, which gives the buttermilk its signature tangy flavor and thicker texture.
Storage: Once opened, buttermilk can last up to two weeks in the fridge. If you notice a strong sour smell or if your buttermilk becomes chunky, or if it has passed its expiration date even though it's been opened for less than two weeks, then it's time to toss it.

What Does Buttermilk Do In Baking
Buttermilk plays a key role in baking, particularly in recipes for cakes, biscuits or muffins.
- Buttermilk adds a tangy flavor to baked goods.
- The acid in buttermilk activates baking soda, helping baked goods to rise.
- Buttermilk adds moisture to batters and doughs, and creates a crumb that's more tender than one made with whole milk.
